Description: Yarn Substitutions stump you? Wish you knew why your project turned out different than you expected? Curious about the fibers that make your yarn? This class is the one for you! In this class we’ll investigate all the things that make your yarn the way it is. We’ll cover yarn weight, yarn plies and the fiber in yarn, breaking down how each influences your final product.
Skills Covered: By the end of the class students should have a good sense of how to make yarn substitutions, how fiber, ply and gauge can affect drape, and how to identify some types of fibers from others.
Time: 3 hour class
Skill Level: none, accessible to any knowledge level, both knitting and crochet
Homework: none
Students should bring: 5 yarns, each a different weight or fiber content. Bring any notes on the yarn (ie: manufacturer, ect) Each sample should be about 4-5 yrds. These yarns will be shared with the class! Also bring a pen or pencil, and scissors.
